Crash Course on the Backgammon Blitz
The blitz is a backgammon strategy that is characterized by an exciting array of offensive maneuvers. With that in mind, you can be sure that you will be hitting a lot of blots when you use this strategy. If you manage to pull it off and execute the blitz quite nicely your opponent will have a hard time defending against it.
One interesting feature of the blitz is that it can sometimes lead to gammon victories. However, it is only correct to warn you that you should also expect certain reversals of fortune when executing a blitz in backgammon. You might find yourself on the offensive at one time and then defending after. The blitz is also a gamble in backgammon, so if you execute it you should be prepared to take some risks.
The first step in executing the backgammon blitz is to recognize if you can commence using this strategy. Certain conditions must occur during a game in backgammon so can start a blitz. You usually start in the early stages of a game and look out for certain signals after the opening roll. You should check if your opponent has back checkers split. Next, if you manage to hit one or both of those back checkers you can say that you've got some momentum for a blitz in the making.
The next phase should be that you are able to make a home board point or two thus giving you a comfortable lead in the game. Sometimes this would require rolling a double in reply to the opening roll. The last signal that you should be aware of is that your opponent fails to enter one or both checkers from the bar. With these conditions effective in the early stages of the game, you can be sure that you can now start executing the blitz.
After trapping one or two opposing checkers on the bar you have two simple objectives in order to make your backgammon blitz effective. First is to make more home board points thus securing your position and your trap. The second is to hit more blots along the way as you move checkers all around the backgammon board. A good tip in building more home board points is to bring down builders from your mid point and use them in your later turns. You should make it a point to bring down builders since they are your fastest way to hold opposing checkers securely on your side of the fence.
If you execute the backgammon blitz very well, your opponent will have very little to do but watch you move closer to victory. Just remember to watch out for swings of fortune as you might find yourself in a predicament if you don't execute things right in a blitz.
